Live Long and Prosper

Live long and prosper. This is how my first grader greeted me today after school -- the full-on hand gesture included. In case you are wondering, no we are not Trekkers. Please notice that I do know enough about it that the term "Trekkie" is not acceptable to a true fan.
Space the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. It's continuing mission: To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no man has gone before.
I can't tell you how many times I listened to the sound of my brother's voice as he repeated the opening monologue to Star Trek. I would follow his bewitched voice into the den to find him four inches from the television mesmerized by Captain Kirk, Spock, Scotty, Sulu and all the pointy-boobed women with blue eyeshadow. It didn't matter if he had seen the episode 784 times. I must say . . . even though I tried to do my ballet in front of the TV while he was watching and all my other girly things, I couldn't help but pick up a thing or two including my great love for sci-fi.

Needless to say, the whole fam saw the latest Star Trek when in came out in 2009. I guess that is another vote my way for Mother of the Year (to them, yes -- to the vast majority of moms who wouldn't dare let their 4 year-old watch a PG-13 movie, a big NO!) That was two years ago so imagine my surprise at my little Vulcan this afternoon. OK, not really. I've been known to greet them off and on like that as well as bestow the blessing, "May the Force be with you."

You may be wondering what all this babble is about and what deems it worthy of my sacred blog? Well, I can't help but wonder what pop culture material my boys might be storing up in their little minds to break out to their children in 20 years or so. Maybe history will continue to repeat itself. They've already picked up my love for such things, some of which are probably inappropriate for them -- James Bond, NCIS (her name is Ziva mom, not Ziba,) Beastie Boys, Fleetwood Mac, etc., etc.

I just hope and pray it has nothing to do with Phineas and Ferb. I might have to call Scotty to beam me up! Who of you don't know what I am talking about? You are totally missing out -- coolest thing ever!
