The Power of the Ump
One of my little ballers, awww. I have two little ballers. That sounds dirty. But they are dirty -- oh, so dirty. Dirty, grimy, smelly little ballers. The pic above is CTH two seasons ago so he's gotten bigger and faster and more gooder. The wonderful mother that I am has not taken her camera to the games to get any current photos or BBH in his awesomeness. And he is awesome! One of a handful of six year-olds at bat at the pitching machine and he smacks that ball. He's a great fielder too and stops the ball in the infield every time it comes his way -- can't say the same for all the older kids. His size is the only thing holding him back but he'll get there! What about CTH, you ask? The picture above says it all -- he looks and performs like a pro. It's his first season at kid-pitch and he's made some great plays. Yesterday he hit a triple, caught a fly ball and even continued on after getting beamed HARD in the back by a wild pitcher. (Do I sound bias? I swear it is all true. Don't believe me? Wanna fight?!)
Yesterday, I had ball game duty for both the boys (because remember - I cannot interfere with all that is holy with CLH.) Granted, he usually never misses a game but was in a tournament this weekend.) That meant that I needed to make sure they had their uniforms on, cups in place, shirts tucked in, cleats double-knotted and ALL their gear accounted for. Fortunately, CTH's game was at 8:30 a.m. and BBH's immediately after. Ball game duty was done at 12:15 p.m. but we still had a full day of activities ahead of us.
One thing that seems to be a universal lesson learned at the ball field . . . Never underestimate the power of the umpire. Yes, the coaches might argue with them now and then but what the big man in blue calls is the law. I love hearing that "Strike three!" or "You're out!" (unless it's against one of my men) and what I thought I liked best, "And that's the ball game!" They have great voices. But lucky, lucky me heard a new one yesterday that I'll be using now on a daily basis -- "It's my time!" Ha, I never heard that one. The ump needed to sweep the plate. I love it! "It's my time!"
I never thought I'd be living this life. I thought I would be at the ballet studio, painting little fingers and toes and creating new hairdos. I wouldn't change a thing!
